Havana: The Curtain Rises for the 2011 Jazz PLaza Festival
HAVANA, Cuba, Dec 15 (acn) The 27th International Jazz Plaza
Festival starts today with an exclusive concert at the Mella
Theater, known already as the cathedral of this musical genre in
Cuba.

The opening performance will bring pianists
Gonzalo Rubalcaba, from Cuba,
and Arturo O´Farril, from the United States, accompanied by the
National
Symphony Orchestra directed by maestro Enrique Perez Mesa, on
stage; as
well as the Entrevoces Choir directed by Digna Guerra.
The Jazz Plaza Festival, the biggest event of the genre in the
country,
will be dedicated this year to classic music in jazz. It will be
hosted by
different venues in Havana and will include the Seventh
International Jazz
Colloquium for the presentation of master lectures and the
screening of
films related to the event.
Cuba will be represented by such excellent artists and groups as
Alexis
Bosch and the Jazz Cubano Project, NG la Banda with Jose Luis
Cortes and
his Camerata de Flautas, Bobby Carcasses, Habana Sax and Emilio
Morales.
Coming from abroad are US saxophonist Neil Leonard, with the
Berklee
Faculty Jazz, and the groups Laberinto del Caos, from Mexico,
and Naad
Braahnam, from India, among others.
