Cuban Judoka Leaves Today for Japan’s
Grand Slam
HAVANA, Cuba, Dec
6 (acn) Cuban judoka Asley Gonzalez leaves Tuesday for Japan to
participate on December 9-11 at the Grand Slam of Tokyo, which will
add points for the world rankings.

Gonzalez, bronze winner division
of the Paris World Championship 2011 in
the 90 Kg, will travel to the Japanese capital accompanied by
his trainer
Justo Noda, with the hope of making a good performance in view
of the
upcoming Olympic Games of London 2012.
According to the website of the event, the winners on each
division will
receive 300 points that will add to the world rankings, from
where the
classified for the London meeting will come out.
The world medalist and Noda will join judokas Yanet Bermoy (52),
Yaritza
Abel (63), Idalis Ortiz (+78) and their trainer Ronaldo Veitia
who have
been in Tokyo since late November getting warm-up for the event.
Based on the program posted on the website, the first one to
come up the
tatami from the Cubans will be Bermoy, on Friday 9; Abel and
Gonzalez will
come next, on Saturday 10, and Ortiz, on Sunday 11.
Organizers of the Grand Slam announced the participation of
representatives from 73 countries, with 473 judokas (292 men and
181
women), many of whom walked away with medals in the Paris
Championship.
