Irish Artist Wins Cuba’s Int’l Video Art Festival First Prize
CAMAGUEY, Cuba, Nov 30 (acn) Niall Farrel, from Ireland, was the
winner of the first prize granted by the jury of the Fourth
International Festival of Video Art of Camagüey, to which 107
works by artists from all over the world were submitted.

Farrel, a professional creator, received the
prize in recognition of both
the value and efficient artistic visualization and the synthesis
in
mirroring the stages in the Israeli aggression in the Middle
East, in the
works titled “3311666735.816667” and “Tivatim”.
The jury granted mentions to Dunieski Martín Urgelles (Cuba) and
Elaine
Buckholtz (US), for their respective pieces “Cuando la historia
se nos
hace invisible” and “Requiem for Egimen Wonks.”
Collateral prizes were granted by four institutions to artists
from the
host country:
Alejandro Calzada Miranda garnered UNESCO’s award with “Retrato
de
familia”, while the Brownstone Foundation recognized Amilkar
Feria Flores
for “Se puede.”
The Camaquito Foundation chose Camila Garcia Enriquez for
“Cherries”,
while the Ceiba Property Corporation Ltd., decided to have Arlen
Llanio
Marcelo-Ricardo Miguel Hernandez (“Currículum”) and Celia
Gonzalez
Alvarez-Yunior Aguiar Perdomo (“Sonido sordo en tercer plano”)
share the
prize.
In statements to ACN, member of the jury, Magali Espinosa
highlighted the
festival’s progress in terms of organization, maturity and
quality. She
extolled the results of the theoretical sessions of the event
noting that
it lead to very interesting discussions among creators from the
host
country and abroad.
The Festival, which had taken place annually since 2007, will be
held as
of 2013 every two years.
