Int’l Festival of New Latin American Cinema Begins in Havana
HAVANA, Cuba, Dec 1 (acn) The 33rd International Festival of
New Latin American Cinema begins on Thursday in the Cuban
capital with the screening of ‘Un cuento chino’ by Argentinean
director Sebastian Borensztein.

The opening ceremony of the event at Havana’s
Karl Marx Theater will also
include the performance of young and talented pianist Harold
Lopez Nussa
and the folkloric group Los seis del solar.
Films from 46 nations will be screened until December 11 in
Havana and
also in the main movie-theaters of the country.
On this occasion, Cuba will be competing with 14 productions,
including
feature films, short films and documentaries. Some of them are ‘Chamaco’,
by Juan Carlos Cremata Malberti; ‘Fabula’ by Lester Hamlet;
‘Marina’, by
Enrique Álvarez; and ‘Juan de los muertos’, by Alejandro Brugues.
Also participating in the festival will be artists from Brazil
(25
productions), Mexico (24), and Argentina (18).
The organizers of the event are planning to pay tribute to late
Cuban
filmmaker Humberto Solas with the screening of the three parts
of his film
‘El siglo de las luces’ (known in English as ‘Explosion in a
Cathedral’)
and also to Nobel laureate in Literature Gabriel Garcia Marquez
with the
exhibition of the movie versions of some of his novels.
