While making these two
announcements at Havana’s Hemingway Marina, Jose Miguel Diaz,
president of the Marlin S.A. Business Group of Marinas and
Nautical Clubs, pointed out that this is an ideal opportunity to
promote Cuba’s underwater heritage, and register in photographs
its diversity and endemism.
The two competitions will take place in May at the Los Canarreos
archipelago, in the southern part of the island, since it’s an
area with excellent conditions for lodging and mobility, in view
of the large amount of people expected to attend the traditional
event, held at the Colony Hotel, in the Isle of Youth.
In the presence of tourism executives, tour operators and
journalists, Diaz explained that, at the request of
participants, an international competition is organized at the
venue of the world championship a year before, in order to
become familiar with its vicinity and the region’s environment.
The 2011 photo world competition was held in Turkey, and was
attended by 88 teams from several countries. Preparations are
already under way along with the Tourism Ministry to make its
next edition a success, said Gonzalo Rios, director for Products
and Development of the Marlin S.A. Business Group of Marinas and
Nautical Clubs.
