Leinier Dominguez Continues Superb Performance at Championship of Spanish Chess Clubs
HAVANA, Cuba, Nov 25 (acn) Cuban Grand Master (GM) Leinier Dominguez beat Indian GM Pentala Harikrishna on Thursday and thus continued his excellent performance in the Division of Honor of the Spanish Championship of Chess Clubs that is under way in the Spanish enclave of Melilla.

Dominguez —the best-ranked Latin American player with an ELO rating of
2,712 points— beat Harikrishna (2,673) to lead his team, the Sestao
Naturgas Energía club, to an easy 4.5-1.5 win over the CA Solvay.

With this victory, the Cuban player has 4.5 points out of five possible.
In his previous matches, he beat Russian GM Alexey Dreev (2,710) and then
drew with Spanish Francisco Vallejo (2,705); later on, he downed Armenian
GM Gabriel Sargissian (2,671) and Ukrainian GM Sergey Fedorchuk (2,632).

In the other results on Thursday, the Gros Xake Taldea club beat
Cajacanarias and CA Linex-Magic defeated CA Reverte Albox, in both cases 4-2.

After five rounds, Sestao Naturgas is ahead with 19.5 points, followed by
Gros Xake Taldea, with 17 units. CA Linex-Magic and CA Solvay share the
third and fourth spots with 13 points apiece. Colegio Marcote is fifth
with 11.5; while CA Reverte Albox and Cajacanarias close the standings
with only eight points apiece.
