Dominguez —the best-ranked Latin American player with an ELO rating of
2,712 points— played with the black pieces and beat Sargissian (2,671)
after 57 moves of a Benko Gambit. Later, with the white pieces, he downed
Fedorchuk (2,632) after 46 moves of an English Opening.

With these victories, Dominguez has 3.5 points out of four possible as he
previously beat Russian GM Alexey Dreev on Monday and drew with Spanish
Francisco Vallejo on Tuesday.

The Cuban player is defending the first board of the Sestao Naturgas
Energía club, one of the pre-tournament favorite teams to win the event,
which is leading the tournament with 15 units.

After Wednesday’s double round, the Sestao Naturgas is followed by Gros
Xake Taldea, with 13 points. Colegio Markote and CA Solvay share the third
and fourth spots with 11.5 units apiece. CA Linex-Magic is fifth with
nine; while CA Reverte Albox Cajacanarias close the standings with only
six points apiece.
