Leinier Dominguez Ties in Second Day of Championship of Spanish Chess Clubs
HAVANA, Cuba, Nov 23 (acn) Cuban Grand Master (GM) Leinier Dominguez tied with local GM Francisco Vallejo in the second day of competitions of the Division of Honor of the Spanish Championship of Chess Clubs that is under way in the Spanish enclave of Melilla.

After beating Russian GM Alexey Dreev with black pieces on Monday,
Dominguez —the best-ranked Latin American player with an ELO rating of
2,712 points— played with the white pieces on Tuesday and held Vallejo
(2,705) to a tie after 45 moves of an English Opening.

The Cuban player is defending the first board of the Sestao Naturgas
Energía club, one of the pre-tournament favorite teams to win the event.

With this result, Dominguez contributed to his team’s 3-3 draw with the
Colegio Markote-EIKM club.

Also on Tuesday, the CA Solvay club took a 5-1 win over the CA
Linex-Magic, and Gros Xake Taldea beat CA Reverte Albox 3.5-2.5.
Cajacanarias rested.

After two rounds, Sestao Naturgas Energía leads with 7.5 points, followed
by Colegio Markote and CA Solvay, both with seven units. CA Linex-Magic is
fourth with 5.5; CA Reverte Albox is fifth with five points; Gros Xake
Taldea places sixth with 3.5; and Cajacanarias closes the standings with
only 1.5 units.
