Cuban Artists Pay Homage to Antonio Gades at his Burial Place
SANTIAGO DE CUBA, Cuba, Nov 10 (acn) The artists of the Antonio
Gades dance company paid homage to the late great Spanish dancer
and choreographer at his burial place, in the Mausoleum Segundo
Frente Oriental Frank Pais, in the eastern province of Santiago
de Cuba.
|
During the ceremony, the company performed the
piece “Algo se muere en el
alma”, which deals with flamenco pain, a topic he was very fond
of.
Gades’ widow, Eugenia Eiriz, dedicated a few words to her
husband and
affirmed that they were all touched by returning to the place he
shares
with those who died for the independence of this noble people,
though he
didn’t joined them in battle, but fought against injustice
throughout his
life and that’s why he lays with them.
While addressing visitors and inhabitants of that municipality,
the Cuban
Culture deputy minister, Rafael Bernal, noted that Gades was an
exceptional dancer and choreographer, and a symbol of universal
art whose
loyalty and courage made him worthy of resting in this
mausoleum.
The members of the company also paid tribute to the heroes and
martyrs of
Segundo Frente, and Gades’ widow and his daughter, Maria Esteve,
laid a
flower wreath by the rock that guards the mortal remains of
heroine Vilma
Esppin Guillois.
On that occasion, the central museum of the Segundo Frente
Historic
Complex, inaugurated a place of honor for Gades, with personal
objects,
pictures from his numerous trips to Cuba, and the Jose Marti
distinction
imposed on him by Commander in Chief Fidel Castro in 2004.
On Wednesday, the Antonio Gades Company performed at the Heredia
Theatre
in the province and was very well received by the audience.
