Shot in French and Chadian Arabic, the film won the Jury’s Special Prize at the Cannes Festival in 2010 and will be presented to the Cuban public by its director, according to information provided on Thursday by Rigoberto Lopez, president of the Caribbean Cinema Traveling Exhibition, during a press conference in this capital.

The cycle includes 16 titles from 12 countries, among them “Ramata”, by Congolese filmmaker Leandre Alain Backer; “El precio del perdon”, by Senegalese Mansour Sora Wade; and “El heroe”, by Zeze Gamboa, the winner of a prize at the Sundance Festival in 2005 and at FESPACO, the region’s most important cinematographic event.

The African Cinema Festival complements the Meeting of Filmmakers from Africa, the Caribbean and its Diasporas, slated for September 12th through the 16th, within the framework of the International Year of Afro-descendants.

The program will be extended to 11 provinces in the country, including Pinar del Rio, Villa Clara and Santiago de Cuba, added Lopez.
