Amado
Riol, head of the Press Office of the island’s diplomatic
mission to the fraternal country, told ACN that the actions
were also organized by the Mexican Solidarity-with-Cuba
Movement, and included debates on legal aspects of the case
of Fernando Gonzalez, Rene Gonzalez, Antonio Guerrero,
Gerardo Hernandez and Ramon Labañino, and panels.
The
event’s program, published by the Foundation’s Web site,
also included the performance of Cuban actors, troubadours
and poets, like Vicente Feliu, Corina Mestre, Augusto
Blanca, Pepe Ordas, Lazaro Garcia and Waldo Leyva.
The
campaign’s official Web page (www.rosalux.org.mx)
broadcast activities live, and social networks like Facebook
called upon people to participate.
Known
internationally as The Five, Gerardo, Rene, Antonio, Ramon
and Fernando were arrested on September, 1998, when they
were monitoring the criminal activities of Florida-based
anti-Cuban groups.
After
a biased trial held in Miami, these antiterrorist fighters
were given sentences ranging from 15 years to two life
imprisonments plus 15 years.
