Cuban Ballet
Company Gets Standing Ovation in Germany
CAMAGUEY, Cuba, Sept 7 (acn) The Cuban contemporary ballet
company,
Endedans, based in Camaguey, received a standing ovation in
Hamburg,
Germany on its first presentation ever in Europe.
|
The company performed “La Carmen” a peculiar version of the
ballet
inspired on Georges Bizet’s opera by Endedans director Tania
Vergara. The
choreography portrays –in this case– the polemical convergence
of sexual
preferences.
While maintaining elements of violence, seduction, revenge and
death that
characterize the original story, as well as the long for freedom
and lack
of prejudices of its main character, in Vergara’s version, the
leading
role is brought to life by a transvestite who is trapped in a
love
triangle with another man and a woman.
Vergara has won 14 national and international prizes including
the Iberian
American Choreography Contest in 2008.
Julio Cesar Delgado, Endedans’s public relations told ACN the
performance
was awarded with a standing ovation by the public and has
received very
good reviews from local critics and cultural personalities.
Endedans traveled to Germany following an invitation to
participate in the
celebrations for the 20th anniversary of the Schmidts Tivoli
Theater
running until September 15.
Founded in 2002, Endedans combines classic and contemporary
dance.
