The countries that have confirmed their participation are
Argentina, Bolivia, Brazil,
Chile, Colombia, Cuba, Curazao, Ecuador, El Salvador, Spain,
Guatemala, Guyana, Mexico, Nicaragua, Paraguay, Peru, Puerto
Rico, the Dominican Republic and the host nation, the Venezuelan
News Agency (AVN) reported.
The inauguration of the 4th ALBA Games has been scheduled for
Sunday, 11:00 a.m., at the Antonio Herrera Gutierrez Stadium of
Barquisimeto, in the state of Lara.
This event will include competitions in 35 specialties, the
games of which will take place in 10 regions of the country:
Lara (13), Yaracuy (4), Portuguesa (3), Cojedes (4), Carabobo
(2), Zulia (2), Aragua (2), Vargas (2), Distrito Capital (2) and
Miranda (1).
The AVN adds that the list of participating countries could
increase, which will be known over the following days, at the
end of the technical meetings of each sports discipline.
The ALBA Games were held for the first time in 2005, following
an idea of Commander in Chief Fidel Castro and Venezuelan
President Hugo Chavez, after signing the Final Declaration of
the First Cuba-Venezuela Meeting.
