Audio Described Cuban Film Season Begins in Havana
HAVANA, Cuba, Jul 11 (acn) Cuban films with audio description,
for people with sight problems, will be screened in a popular
movie theater of the Cuban capital this summer.
|
As part of the special season that began last
weekend, the films Se permuta (House for Swap, for adults) and
Elpidio Valdes (a feature-length cartoon very famous among Cuban
children) were displayed at La Rampa, which will host the
screenings.
The project is sponsored by the National Association of the
Blind and the Cuban Art and Film Industry Institute (ICAIC).
Audio description refers to an additional narration track for
the blind and visually impaired. It consists of a narrator
talking through the presentation, describing what is happening
on the screen during the natural pauses in the audio, and
sometimes during dialogue if deemed necessary.
On Wednesday, July 13, it will be played La muerte de un
burocrata (Death of a Bureaucrat). Other films included in the
program are El cuerno de la abundancia (The horn of Plenty),
Ciudad en rojo (City in Red), Lista de espera (Waiting List) and
Viva Cuba.
After the screening of House for Swap, blind-born Julia
Rodriguez said to ACN that thanks to the narration she could
easily follow the thread of the film. Maria Isabel Ruiz, who
could enjoy the film when she could see, said that once again
she totally enjoyed it.
