International Colloquium “The Caribbean that Unites Us” Wraps Up
SANTIAGO DE Cuba,
Jul 8 (acn) The International Colloquium “The Caribbean that
Unites Us,” an opportunity for reflection about the contemporary
social-cultural thinking wound up on Friday at the Heredia
Theater, in the Cuban eastern city of Santiago de Cuba.
|
The colloquium, which is the theoretical section
of the 31st Caribbean Festival, focused this year on the
Pan-African culture and the bonds between the Caribbean and
Africa, as well as the impact of that legacy in arts, among
other topics.
The different halls of the theater have born witness, once
again, of the importance granted by social sciences to the
common branch of the cultures of the region, and how cooperation
between nations is the best way to preserve national identities.
The colloquium was attended by several personalities among them
James Millette, historian from Trinidad and Tobago; Norman
Girvan, ex-secretary general of the Association of Caribbean
States, and Cuban Fernando Martinez Heredia, National Social
Sciences Prize 2006 winner.
