Doctor Natividad Guerrero, director of the Center for Youth
Studies (CESJ), asserted on Thursday that the program of
actions on the island to mark the date has been precisely
conceived to involve population groups that are different
but equally decisive in terms of population and the future.
In this regard she referred to young people, women and
senior citizens, on which this year the UN Population Fund (UNFPA)
centers its message, while inviting humanity to meditate on
the opportunity and at the same time the challenge
coexisting in a planet of seven billion people represents,
the survival of which depends on all.
Doctor Guerrero announced some of the activities planned to
mark World Population Day, like an online debate on
sexual and reproductive health, with special emphasis on
puberty and family planning, scheduled for Friday, starting
at 9:00 a.m., from
http://foros.cubava.cu.
The following day, with the support of the Havana City
Historian Office, there will be special tour offers for
families, and a wushu presentation at the Plaza de Armas. At
noon, at the “Leonor Pérez” Maternal Hospital, the National
Center for Sexual Education (CENESEX) will present recent
publications, with valuable lessons for the exercise of
responsible parenthood.
On Sunday, 6:00 pm, at the Cuba Pavilion, young
singer-songwriter David Torrens will offer a concert, and on
Monday morning, at the former Belen Convent, several
projects destined to people of the so-called third age will
be presented, while there will be a scientific workshop at
the San Geronimo School.
With specialists of the
CESJ, the Center for Demographic Studies of the University
of Havana and the National Office of Statistics, two panels
will focus on youth, social policies, challenges and
population growth in today’s Cuban context. In the
afternoon, the Center for Youth Studies will present the
last issue of its magazine.
Doctor Natividad Guerrero stated that not only the capital
but the entire nation will celebrate July 11, with cultural,
recreational and didactic options and with health promotion,
debates and many other initiatives.
