Cuban Baseball Team Departs for Canada

HAVANA, Cuba, Jul 6 (acn) The Cuban team that will participate in the World Baseball Challenge travels today to Canada after a training series against the team that will attend the ALBA games.

In the series the team going to Canada won 3 out of five games, though the last one they lost 6-3 in the Havana city’s Panamericano Stadium.

Cuba will make its debut in the Challenge tournament versus the Beijing Tigers, to later face Japan, Chinese Taipei and the host team to conclude the qualifying round to the finals to be held on Sunday, July 17.

The team arrives to this tournament with Eduardo Martin as manager, since the one appointed, Alfonso Urquiola had to be hospitalized a couple of days ago.

Cuba has only one participation to this kind of event when it won the gold medal in 2002 coached by Jorge Fuentes.
