The Caribbean fiesta will take over 30 venues scattered all over the city with a program that includes dance performances and concerts by Cuban and foreign groups, among other activities.

About 800 artists from 25 other countries will come together from July 3-9 for the Festival.

A report by Prensa Latina says one of the first activities in the program is a workshop on popular religions beginning on Sunday. The event will feature the choir "Voces del Milagro" (Voices of Miracle), from the town of El Cobre, "Cordoneros de Orile," and a celebration honoring Oshun, a deity of the Cuban-African religion.

The international colloquium "El Caribe que nos Une" (The Caribbean which unites us), and the Jesus Coss Causse Conference of Poets from the Caribbean and the World starts Monday, while diverse Caribbean visual art exhibitions are available in different galleries of the city.

Story telling, natural medicine, fiestas in rural Cuba and Haiti, jams with steel bands from Cuba and other islands, a tribute to slave rebellion and rumba dancing sessions are all included in the festival.

This year’s event is dedicated to the people and culture of Trinidad and Tobago, which sent an official artistic delegation of 77 members.
