Works for 500 Years Anniversary of Village of Baracoa Boosted
BARACOA, Cuba, Jun 29 (acn) Investments, on the occasion of the
500th anniversary of Nuestra Señora de la Asuncion de Braracoa,
are being boosted as there are only 47 days left for the
celebrations of the foundation of the first village in Cuba, on
August 15.

The
president of the People’s Power Assembly in the municipality
of Baracoa, in the eastern province of Guantanamo, Robert
Maresma Gainza, told ACN that there are 108 works, including
40 new investments, for the medium and long terms.
Maresma noted that about 15 construction projects will be
concluded for the anniversary of the village. Some of these
projects include the total restoration of the Museum
Matachin and of the Malecon, which was destroyed in 2008 by
two swells.
According to the time schedule, the laying of hydraulic
pipes in the interior of the city, the renovation of public
lighting and the electrification of the community of
Camarones should come to an end by mid August.
The works in a Computer Club, the Plaza Hotel, the Zoo, a
dentist clinic, a house of culture, among others, should
also be finished for the 500th anniversary of the first
Cuban village and episcopacy.
The total restoration of the fist parochial church in Cuba,
an icon of the city, is the main focus of attention for the
inhabitants of the city and its visitors. This church was
rebuilt in masonry back in 1807. There Fray Bartolome de las
Casas performed the first mass in Cuba, on August 15, 1511.
