The president of the People’s Power Assembly in the municipality of Baracoa, in the eastern province of Guantanamo, Robert Maresma Gainza, told ACN that there are 108 works, including 40 new investments, for the medium and long terms.

Maresma noted that about 15 construction projects will be concluded for the anniversary of the village. Some of these projects include the total restoration of the Museum Matachin and of the Malecon, which was destroyed in 2008 by two swells.

According to the time schedule, the laying of hydraulic pipes in the interior of the city, the renovation of public lighting and the electrification of the community of Camarones should come to an end by mid August.

The works in a Computer Club, the Plaza Hotel, the Zoo, a dentist clinic, a house of culture, among others, should also be finished for the 500th anniversary of the first Cuban village and episcopacy.

The total restoration of the fist parochial church in Cuba, an icon of the city, is the main focus of attention for the inhabitants of the city and its visitors. This church was rebuilt in masonry back in 1807. There Fray Bartolome de las Casas performed the first mass in Cuba, on August 15, 1511.
