Baseball:
Cuba Suffers to beat Germany in World Port Tourney
HAVANA, Cuba, Jun 27 (acn) The Cuban national baseball team achieved
an agonic victory over the weak German squad 3-4 in ten innings in
the last game of the first round on the Rotterdam World Port
Tournament.

Geramny took the lead in the fourth inning when Cuban starter
left-handed Misael Siverio allowed two singles, and threw two
wild pitches followed by a sacry-fly to score the first run.
In the sixth designed hitter Simon Gühring singled and reached
second after another wild pitch, moved to third when the next
batter groundout and was batted in by first baseman Bjorn
Schonlau.
Cuba reduced the gap in the following inning when outfielder
Yasel Puig hit a solo homer out of starter Eugen Heilmann. But
Germany managed to score again in the eight combining two
singles and a dead ball.
In his next at-bat Puig singled for another RBI, but Cuba
couldn’t tie the game despite having loaded bases with one out.
In the ninth with two outs and runner on second Yoilan Cerce
shot a line drive to the center to force the game to
extra-innings.
In the tenth inning Yoelvis Fiss singled, advanced to second and
third with two groundouts and scored the winning run after
costly error by the German short-stop.
The berst Cuban batter was Puig who went 3 out of 5 with two
RBIs and one run, while Schonlau singled twice with two RBIs.
Now Cuba has two wins and two losses, while Chinese Taipei leads
the group with three wins in the same amount of games.
