Cuba Loses
to Curacao in Rotterdam Baseball
HAVANA, Cuba,
Jun 24 (acn) Cuba started its participation in the World Port
Tournament underway in the Dutch city of Rotterdam with a loss to
Curacao 4-6 in the second day of activities.

Curacao opened the score in the very first inning versus Cuban
starter Dailier Hinojosa when first baseman William Saavedra
made an error. They added a second run in the fourth with
consecutive doble and single by Lewis Carolus and Heinrich
Martina, respectively.
Cuba recovered in the fifth and scored three times, thanks to
two errors made by the Curacao defense, but Hinojosa allowed two
singles in that same inning and made another error that cost two
more runs.
In the seventh Cuba tied the score with single by Yoelvis Fiss,
who stole second base and was batted in by outfielder Yasiel
Puig, but Cuban third baseman Donald Duarte erred for the second
time in the game in that same inning allowing two more runs for
Curacao.
Cuban reliever Ismel Jimenez lost the game, while Gregory
Gustina won. On the offensive side, Curacao’s Carolus went 3-4
with a doble, and Cubans Rusney Castillo, Saavedra and Puig went
2-5.
Cuba is the defending champion in this event and will face now
Chinese Taipei in its next match.
