The request is included in a letter addressed to US President Barack Obama, written by Euro MPs Miguel Angel Martinez and Willy Meyer, to which over a million signatures in the Old Continent are expected to be added, the Prensa Latina newspaper reported.

There are more than 50,000 signatures from France, among them those of European legislators Patrick Le Hyaric, Jacky Henin and Jean Luc-Melenchon.
The Francia-Cuba, CubasiFrance and Cuba Cooperacion associations are in charge of sending the letter-postcard addressed to Obama to Washington, which was printed in Paris by the Rotativistas Trade Union.

The purpose of the letter is to attract people’s attention about the situation of Gerardo Hernandez, Fernando Gonzalez, Ramon Labañino, Rene Gonzalez and Antonio Guerrero, condemned to unjust and harsh sentences ranging from 15 years to two life imprisonments plus 15 years.

These patriots were monitoring the activities of Florida-based, anti-Cuban terrorist
organizations.

The international campaign on the case of The Five has been joined by prestigious legal, religious and human rights organizations, including 10 Nobel Prize winners and former US President James Carter, adds the text.

Also, in Lieja, Belgium, the friendship association Friends of Cuba, headed by Alexandra Dirckx, declared itself to be in favor of the release of The Five and condemned the economic, commercial and financial blockade of the United States against the Caribbean island.

Adriana Perez and Olga Salanueva (wives of Gerardo and Rene, respectively) visited Belgium in October, 2009, and gave details to the authorities about the injustices committed against the antiterrorist heroes.

During their meeting with Koenraad Rouvouv, director for Latin America and the Caribbean of the Belgian Chancellery, Adriana and Olga touched on the biased legal process against The Five in depth and underlined the unjust treatment their husbands receive.
