The 3rd International Youth Meeting in Solidarity with The
Five, as Gerardo Hernandez, Antonio Guerrero, Ramon Labañino
and Fernando and Rene Gonzalez are known internationally,
will open its program on Saturday afternoon with a visit to
Jaimanitas, a picturesque coastal locality on the outskirts
of Havana, where plastic arts creator Jose Antonio
Rodriguez, Fuster, develops an interesting community work
project that includes the “Olympus of The Five.”
In a exclusive interview with ACN, Leira Sanchez, member of
the National Bureau of the Young Communists League (UJC),
referred to this visit as an excellent prelude and way of
contributing to help delegates become familiar with the
dissimilar weapons used by Cuba in this battle for the
release of The Five, as well as the many initiatives,
actions and valuable experiences for this task.
This third edition of the International Youth Meeting in
Solidarity with The Five - aimed at breaking the wall of
silence around their case imposed by the US government, and
at promoting the international campaign in favor of their
release- brings together over 180 youngsters and will be
inaugurated on Sunday at Havana’s “Julio Antonio Mella”
National School of the UJC.
The official opening of the event will be followed by a
keynote lecture by Cuban Parliament President Ricardo
Alarcon, and a meeting with relatives of Antonio, Rene,
Gerardo, Ramon and Fernando, the victims, like these five
patriots, of this political vendetta of the US against Cuba.
In the evening, at the Covarrubias Hall of Havana’s Teatro
Nacional, delegates will enjoy, along hundreds of Cuban
contemporaries, the performance of the piece Abracadabra by
La Colmenita children’s theater group, another effort, from
art, to spread the truth about The Five and tip the balance
in favor of justice.
Workshops have been scheduled for Monday, during which
delegates will share experiences and reflect on the use of
new information and communication technologies and humor as
a weapon in the struggle for the release of The Five, and
how young artists and intellectuals can contribute to the
triumph of this noble cause even more.
From 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., from the http://www.foros.cubava.cu
Web site, the interactive forum “Freedom now. Put an end to
Injustice. Release them now!” will allow Internet users from
around the world to join this 3rd International Youth
Meeting and contribute ideas, send messages, ask questions,
express an opinion and propose actions.
After the reading of the meeting’s Final Declaration and the
official closing, there will be a poetry recital and a
concert starting from 5:00 p.m. at the capital’s Cuba
Pavilion.
