Sciences (ACC), Sergio Jorge Pastrana, told ACN that
participants in the meeting will discuss preparations for the
General Assembly of the ICSU, which takes place every three
years, and for the general elections of its Executive Board.
Pastrana added that the members of the Executive Board will
approve the strategic plan for the next six years, the budget,
and recommendations for new programs and activities.
He noted that the event will be linked to the 150th
anniversary of the
foundation of Royal Academy of Medical, Physical and Natural
Sciences of
Havana, the predecessor of the ACC.
According to Wikipedia, the International Council for Science
was founded as an international non-governmental organization
devoted to international co-operation in the advancement of
science. Its members are national scientific bodies and
international scientific unions, including 30 world societies
such as the International Mathematical Union, the International
Astronomical Union and the International Union of Pure and
Applied Chemistry, as well as organizations from 138 countries.
The first Cuban institution of this kind was founded on May
19, 1861, after almost 35 years of efforts by outstanding
researchers led by surgeon Nicolas Jose Gutierrez Hernandez.
