Spanish
Movement Asks Obama to Release the Cuban Five
HAVANA, Cuba, May 13 (acn) Members of the Spanish movement of
solidarity with Cuba asked Barack Obama to exercise his power as
president of the United States to release the five Cuban
antiterrorist fighters imprisoned
in American jails.

In
a meeting at Puerta del Sol square in Madrid, the Cuban Five
supporters held up Cuban flags and placards with pictures of
Gerardo Hernandez, Ramon Labañino, Antonio Guerrero,
Fernando Gonzalez and Rene Gonzalez, Prensa Latina reported.
Among hundreds of people who passed by, they distributed
pamphlets with information about the biased trial to which
the Cuban Five were submitted and on which they were
condemned to unfair and outrageous prison terms.
The members of the Spanish Movement continued to collect
signatures for the one-million signature campaign launched
by the group in favor of the Cuban Five’s case.
In related news, a meeting in support of the Cuban
antiterrorist fighters took place at the Main Hall of the
Amilcar Cabral University in Guinea Bissau with the
participation of more than 200 Guineans, among them
high-ranking officials, Cuban doctors and Cuban and South
African ambassadors to that country.
According to a press release posted on the Cuban Foreign
Ministry’s website, Guinean Bissau’s Minister of Education
Artur Silva spoke about his recent visit to Havana, where he
met with family members of the Cuban Five. He commented on
violations of the Cuban Five’s human and legal rights.
