Havana’s Museum of Fine Arts to
Host Exhibit by Renowned Italian Artist Ugo Nespolo
HAVANA, Cuba, May 9 (acn) A personal exhibition by renowned
Italian painter and sculptor Ugo Nespolo will be on display at
the Hall of Universal Art of the Havana-based Museum of Fine
Arts as of May 13.

The exhibition,
named ‘Nespolo: la bella intolerancia’ (Nespolo: the
Beautiful Intolerance), is made up of 71 works. Its curator,
Niurka Fanego, said that most of them were made on paper,
including silk screens, acrylics, mixed techniques and
photos, some by the artist and others of the artist him by
top Italian cinema photographers.
Fanego added that some of the pieces were specially made for
this exhibition in Havana.
Nespolo, also known for his experimental movies, his applied
arts works and his artistic collaborations in advertising,
theater and literature, was born on August 29, 1941.
According to Wikipedia, he graduated at the Accademia
Albertina di Belle Arti of Turin under Enrico Paulucci and
obtained a degree in Modern Literature at the University of
Turin, with a thesis on Semiology.
His career as an artist started in the 1960s and his work
was influenced by Pop Art, which was becoming popular in
Italy in those years, conceptual art, Arte Povera and Fluxus,
movements that he learned to appreciate during his frequent
trips to the United States. Irony and transgression were
part of his art and they continued to characterize his work
in the years to come.
He has done about twenty films over forty years and his work
has been presented or hosted in major national and
international exhibitions, covering his whole production.
