the company’s guest choreographers told Efe.
The company performed on Friday, May 6 in Virginia and
afterwards it traveled to New York where they will perform
from May 10 to 22 at the Joyce Theater as part of the “Sí,
Cuba” Festival that started last March 31 in the Big Apple.
The company’s program includes the piece “Horizonte” created
for them by Pedro Ruiz, who was born and trained as a dancer
in Cuba and has lived in the U.S. for more than three
decades.
Other choreographies of the six included in the program are
Casi-Casa by Swedish Mats EK and Demo-N/Crazy by Spanish
Rafael Bonachela.
“There is great expectation among dance groups for their
visit,” said Ruiz, who traveled to Cuba in December 2009 and
visited the Company directed by Miguel Iglesias for the
first time.
After New York, Danza Contemporanea will perform in
Philadelphia and Boston, according to the company's official
website.
