Venezuelans
to Demand the Release of the Cuban Five
HAVANA, Cuba, May 4 (acn) On Thursday, May 5, Venezuelans will
send more than 7,000 signed postcards to US President Barrack
Obama to demand the immediate release of the five Cuban
antiterrorists unjustly imprisoned in that country since 1998.
|
According to Prensa Latina news agency, the coordinator of
the Cuba-Venezuela Mutual Solidarity Movement, Rosalinda
Chanaga, pointed out that they will send the postcards on
the International Days of Action to Free the Cuban Five ––as
they are internationally known––, from the main headquarters
of the Postal Telegraphic Institute, in Caracas.
The International Committee for the Freedom of the Cuban
Five made a call for a worldwide campaign to demand the
release of Gerardo Hernandez, Antonio Guerrero, Rene
Gonzalez, Fernando Gonzalez, and Ramon Labañino on the fifth
day of every month.
Three new elements have been added to this campaign given
that the US government requested the Miami Federal Court to
reject the application for habeas corpus of Gerardo
Hernandez (sentenced to two life terms plus 15 years),
Antonio Guerrero (sentenced to 21 years plus 10 months
imprisonment), and Rene Gonzalez (15 years).
The Cuban Five were imprisoned for trying to prevent
terrorist actions against Cuba by right-wing groups based in
Miami .
