Cuba’s
Participation in Al Jazeera Festival Highlighted
HAVANA, Cuba, Apr 28 (acn) Abbas Arnaut, president of the 7th
edition of the International
Documentary Festival of Al Jazeera, the most important Arab
television chain in the Middle
East, highlighted on Tuesday in Qatar the participation of a
Cuban delegation in that event.

In Doha –the
event’s venue- Arnaut pointed out that the island is already
part of this Festival and that its presence has been a great
achievement, since its representatives and works have
integrated into the forum, the National Television Newscast
reported.
We don’t see Cuba as a guest, but as an important part of
the Festival, he stressed.
The Caribbean island competed with two audiovisuals by
Cuban Television and the Mundo Latino production company.
One of the materials, entitled Hemingway’s Islands,
directed by Esteban Rivera,
participated in the category of feature film; while the
other one (Lost Naturalist), by filmmaker Randor Menendez,
competed in shorts.
Cuba also participated as a jury in this Festival, and
attending the event was a delegation of the Cuban Radio and
Television Institute and the Mundo Latino production
company.
The event’s Golden Award, in feature film, went to the
British movie Pink Saris, on a group of Indian women facing
the myths and impositions of their culture and traditions.
Prizes were also given in the categories of medium-length
films and shorts, in addition to special prizes conferred by
the Arab television network to documentaries reflecting a
thorough journalist research and those tackling the issue of
human rights.
