Foreign
Musicians to Attend Cubadisco 2011 Int’l Fair in Santiago de
Cuba
HAVANA, Cuba, Apr 27 (acn) Foreign artists such as Puerto Rican
singer Andy Montañez, students of the Boston’s Berklee College
of Music, and the French septet Son de Salon, have confirmed
their participation in the 15th International Fair Cubadisco
2011, scheduled for Santiago de Cuba on May 14-22.

According to the
event’s Organizing Committee, the festival of Cuban music
will also be attended by Argentinean troubadour Fernando
Pecchia and by Venezuelan musicians Cesar Monjes and Fidel
Antillano, the respective directors of the bands Dimension
Latina and Combo Antillano Venezolano, among other artists.
Cubadisco 2011 will be dedicated this year to singers
and composers of son, one of the most important Cuban music
genres.
One of the highlights of the fair, which will have its
main venue outside of the Cuban capital for the first time,
will be the launching of the CD Afrocubism, by Eliades Ochoa
and his quartet Patria with musicians from Mali.
Other highlights include the world’s longest Son event
and the first National Contest of Son Interpretation and
Improvisation.
In this year’s event, more than 100 nominees are
competing in 30 categories. The Gala of Awards will take
place simultaneously at the Carlos Manuel de Cespedes Park
in Santiago de Cuba and the Karl Marx Theater in Havana.
