Cuban Team to Baseball Classic Departs for AsiaHAVANA, Cuba, Feb 14 (ACN) The Cuban collective that will contest the World Baseball Classic will head for Asia today to participate in a preparatory seven-game series against the teams from China Taipei, The Netherlands and Japan.

The Cuban roster was announced on Wednesday with Coach Victor Mesa heading the team. Mesa said, however, that the there could be changes on the list of players before February 20, according to Granma newspaper.

The preparatory games prior to the Classic will serve as drilling for the Cuban players to assess their potential in front of professional athletes towards the possible results.

Cuba will join the World Baseball Classic on March 3 against Brazil with pitcher Ismel Jimenez possibly opening the first game, Mesa said.
