Renowned German
Drama Director Honored in Cuba
HAVANA, Cuba, Apr 7
(acn) The president of the Association of Cuban Writers and
Artists (UNEAC), Miguel Barnet, presented renowned German drama
director Thomas Dentler with an award that recognizes him as
Member of Honor of this organization.
|
During the awarding ceremony, the president
of UNEAC’s Association of
Theatre Artists, Carlos Padron, pointed out that this
distinction is granted to foreigners who have carried out
systematic cultural exchangeswith Cuba for five or more years.
Barnet mentioned that for more than 15 years Dentler
developed an intense exchange that resulted in the visit to
Germany of Cuban groups like Miron Cubano, Titirivida and Icaron.
Upon receiving the award, Dentler said he accepted it on
behalf of Cuban friends and of German local and government
authorities that support his solidarity work with Cuba and other
Latin American nations; and he presented Barnet with a coin
minted in 1704 in Ulm, his hometown, which reads “God, give us
peace”.
Dentler is the general director of the Theater in der
Westentasche (Pocket Theater) and since 1979 he has played more
than 250 characters. He has produced and directed several
individual shows and has worked with prestigious German and
foreign authors.
His wife, Peruvian actress Nancy Eloisa Calero, will present
the piece “La Gran Tirana” (The Big Tyrant) by Carlos Padron,
staged and directed by Dentler, at the Victor Hugo House
in Havana. The piece highlights the universal character of La
Lupe, a woman that broke patterns and tried to achieve personal
fulfillment as a human being.
Calero said that Cuban plastic artist Arian Irsula
contributed to the staging of the piece. She added that she was
inspired by her afro-Peruvian origins, her experiences in
Germany, and her Bolivian and Brazilian backgrounds.
