Manuel Iturralde,
president of the event’s Organizing Committee and of the Cuban
Society of Geology, told ACN that this topic will be analyzed
during the Third Cuban Congress on Oil and Gas, one of the
meetings that will take place during the Convention.
He added that participants will have the opportunity to discuss
aspects linked to experiences on the exploitation and use of
accompanying gas, and deepwater extraction, treatment,
transportation and refining of oil.
Also scheduled to
take place in parallel with the Convention are conferences on
Geology, Geo-Physics, Mining and Informatics for Geosciences, as
well as workshops and symposiums on nickel deposits, seismology
and geological risks.
Nearly 700 specialists from Latin America, Europe and Asia are
expected to attend.
Cuba’s Exclusive Economic Zone in the Gulf of Mexico was opened
to foreign investment in June 1999 and it is divided into 59
blocs of 2,000 square kilometers each.
