The other two murals correspond to images of Fidel Castro and
Ernesto Che Guevara.
The artist in charge of the work, Juan Garcia Cruz, told ACN the
new sculpture is three meters high and two 2 meters wide and it
was located at the southern community of Camilo Cienfuegos,
facing the road from Cienfuegos to Trinidad.
As part of the Mountain Biennial and using the same technique,
the two other big-format figures were made on previous years.
The sculpture of Che was located in El Nicho, and Fidel’s was
anchored in Cuatro Vientos.
The three pieces create a sort of geographic triangle, Garcia
Cruz said. He added that the works are the only ones of its type
in the province and mentioned as peculiarities the fact that
they are located amidst the daily life of mountain dwellers and
also the contrast and durability of the materials.
About the importance of the Mountain Biennial, one of the
participating artists, Lazaro Gonzalez Hernandez, from the newly
created province of Mayabeque said the event contributes to
improve the aesthetic taste in rural areas and encourages the
exchange among artists from all over the country.
In future editions of the event, other big-format sculptures are
expected to be anchored in the Guamuhaya massif. These will be
dedicated to enhance typical elements of the area.
