Cuban Viengsay Valdes to Perform in Ballet Gala in New York
HAVANA, Cuba, Mar 23 (acn) Viengsay Valdes, a prima ballerina of the Cuban National Ballet (BNC), will dance on Wednesday in a gala of stars at the New York City Center.

According to Prensa Latina news agency, Valdes will have Russian star Ivan Vasiliev as partner in the “Don Quixote” pas de deux, choreographed by Marius Petipa and with music by Minkus.


They will share the stage with renowned dancers such as also Cuban José Manuel Carreño, Melanie Hamrick and Thomas Forster, all with the American Ballet Theatre, as well as Rubinald Pronk, with the Dutch National Ballet, and Yekaterina Kondaurova, with the Marinsky Ballet, among others.


Later on, Valdes will join a tour of the BNC around several Mexican cities. The program for the tour includes Swan Lake, choreographed by Alicia Alonso upon the original by Marius Petipa and Lev Ivanov.

 

On this occasion, the tour includes the southeastern cities of Cancun, Villa Hermosa, Merida, Chetumal and Cozumel. The final performance of the company will take place at the pyramid of Dzibilchaltun, in Merida, according to sources with the BNC.
