According to Alejandro Araujo, investment
specialist of Organizacion Basica Electrica of Havana, the new
substation will benefit more than 75,000 consumers and also
hospitals located in the area and hotels Monte Barreto.
The plant is located in the municipality of Marianao and it is
equipped with state-of-the-art technology that will allow the
operator to promptly identify interruptions.
Araujo said the substation is extreme-weather
proof withstanding strong winds and it gives out little noise.
The specialist assured that the plant was designed according to
environmental protection standards.
Other investments in the sector include the building of two 110
kW substations on agricultural areas in Ciego de Avila, two
others in the eastern province of Holguin, and another one in
Santiago de Las Vegas, Havana.
Raul Garcia, Union Nacional Electrica, told ACN the investments
are aimed at achieving high power availability and reducing
power loss in the system, and ultimately at attaining national
self-sufficiency in energy supply, in accordance with the Draft
Guidelines for the Economic and Social Policy of the Cuban
Communist Party.
