According to the EFE news agency, Perugorria and Cruz, the stars
in “Fresa y Chocolate” (Strawberry and Chocolate), made their
debut as directors with this movie, which was included in the
official section of the event, to take place in the city of
Lerida.
“Afinidades” narrates the story of two couples going through
rough times, which find a way out to their problems in unbridled
sex, which includes the exchange of spouses.
Perugorria and Cruz, Gabriela Griffith –making her debut in
cinema-, and Spanish Cuca Escribano play the leading roles in
the film, which had its premiere during Havana's Festival of the
New Latin American Cinema.
Cruz
wrote the script, which is based on the novel Musica de Camara
(Chamber Music) by Cuban Reinaldo Montero. Singer-songwriter
Silvio Rodriguez and singer Omara Portuondo were in charge of
the soundtrack.
“Afinidades”, a Spanish-Cuban coproduction, will compete with
other films that also participated in the Havana Film Festival,
like “Post Mortem” (Germany-Mexico-Chile), by Chilean Pablo
Larrain; and “Hermano” (Venezuela), by Marcel Rasquin.
“El
atentado”, by Mexican director Jorge Fons; and “Fase 7”, by
Nicolás
Goldbarg, “El cielo elegido”, by Vctor Gonzalez, and “Aballay”,
by Fernando Spiner, all of them from Argentina, will also take
part in the event.
