At the
invitation of Cuban troupe La Edad de Oro, the Venezuelan actors
will stage Weekend in Bahia and Manteca, both by Cuban
playwright and actor Alberto Pedro Torriente (1954-2005),
considered one of the authors who defined the genre in Cuba in
the 1980s and 1990s.
Both pieces are included in the Torriente Trilogy created by the
young Venezuelan director and which is completed with Banquete
Infinito de Torriente.
Merentes will also give a workshop about dramatized readings, a
Venezuelan modality to make theater at low cost. The Venezuelan
director will use Cuban plays and monologues, says a PL report.
The Venezuelan troupe will perform at La Edad de Oro Theater
until Sunday.
Alberto Pedro Torriente’s plays have been staged in the US,
France, Germany, Spain and more recently in Venezuela. Weekend
in Bahia was his first theatrical success.
