Water: Strategic Gold

The United Nations established March 22nd as World Water Day; source of life and one of nature´s most abundant and precious resources. But the current lack of water has turned into a key element for the most powerful countries in the world.

Thousands of kilometers away in space, anyone would characterize the planet as a blue, huge and round source of water capable of relieving thirst for all of humanity.
 

97 percent of the precious liquid is found in the oceans and the remaining 3 percent is drinkable and of that amount over two thirds are ice found in the poles and glaciers.


According to the UN Population Fund, 65 percent of fresh water is used to irrigate the harvest and the other 25 percent is used for industries and the remaining only for homes and services.


Predictions from John Hopkins University assure that in less than three decades the demographic growth will have some 5 000 people in 69 nations praying for rain.
The lack of water brings about drought, results in climate change, inflicts desertification, reduction in the food supply, increase in illnesses, the disappearance of ecosystems and an end to animal and vegetable species.


In addition to scarcity and impact on the population that lacks or receives contaminated water, the vital resource has motivated tensions and political conflicts which will result in military confrontations.
 

With the US heading the list, the master of the world economy designed and developed a projected aimed at controlling oil and natural gas, minerals and water among other precious resources.
