Alfredo Nieves Portuondo,
Cubas ambassador to Minsk, explained Brigadin about the unjust
sentences imposed by Washington on Gerardo Hernandez, Rene
Gonzalez, Antonio Guerrero, Ramon Labaņino and Fernando
Gonzalez, the Prensa Latina news agency reported.
The five antiterrorists were
incarcerated in 1998 and condemned in Miami to sentences ranging
from 15 years to two life imprisonments plus 15 years, for
warning their country about the plans of Florida-based
anti-Cuban organizations.
The Cuban diplomat underlined
the unfair nature of the economic, commercial and financial
blockade imposed by the US government on the island for more
than five decades now.
Brigadin recalled that the
bonds of solidarity and friendship with the Caribbean island
date back to the beginning of the Cuban Revolution, and pointed
out that Byelorussians appreciate the example of the Cuban
people, capable of facing difficulties and numerous aggressions
from abroad.
Also participating in the
meeting were Guenady Ladisev, president of the Byelorussian
Committee for the Release of the Five Heroes and Natacha Diaz,
counselor of the Cuban mission, the Cubaminrex Web site
reported.
Participants in the meeting
also dealt with topics related to the actions to be carried out
over the next few months, on the occasion of the celebration of
the 20th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic
relations between Belarus and Cuba.
