In Matanzas, the American musicians will share
the stage with the Chamber Choir of Matanzas, directed by Jose
Antonio Mendez, and the Youth Choir of the Seminary. The program
includes universal and Cuban pieces.
Mendez Valencia told ACN the cultural exchange with US choirs is
blooming again and mentioned last year’s summer visit to Cuba of
the Choir of the University of Yale.
Hector Eduardo Herrera, clarinetist and tenor of Matanzas’ choir
praised the long-standing tradition of musical teaching at the
University of Saint Thomas where students from 35 American
states and more than 15 countries study.
This is the first concert of musicians from the
state of Minnesota in Cuba and the concert is part of a wide
program marking the 50th anniversary of the Chamber Choir of
Matanzas.
