The
distinction is a recognition to Rodriguez’ artistic career, says
a report on explica el portal digital de Acroarte.
President of the association, Feliz Vinicio Lora said the
organization was honored to award the prize to Rodriguez,
founder of the Nueva Trova musical movement, who has taken his
songs and music not only to the Dominican Republic, but almost
to the entire world.
Rodriguez has developed a fruitful career both as composer and
singer of a musical genre that emerged in the 1970’s and brought
together figures of the popoular and trova music.
The Casandra prizes, on its 27th edition, were created to
recognize the work of outstanding art and culture
representatives. They were established in 1985 as a tribute to
the memory of Dominican singer and dancer Casandra Damiron
(1919-1983).
Some of Casandra prizewinners are Colombian Juanes, Puerto Rican
Marc Anthony and Mexican Paulina Rubio.
