During
ASCUBI’s first assessment meeting of the year, held in the
central province of Villa Clara, Margarita Bellas, president of
the association —which includes more than 3,000 members—,
explained that the moment is right to continue strengthening
their work through the unification of the university,
specialized, school and public center systems with the support
of the Law of Libraries, passed last August.
She also highlighted the importance of carrying out training
courses on new technologies taking into account the ongoing
process of digitalization to preserve the national bibliographic
heritage and to improve the quality of services.
Bellas praised the work of the organization’s affiliate in Villa
Clara —the second largest in the country only behind Havana—,
which recently hosted a national event for the promotion of
reading and another one on the automation of libraries.
