Work and Live: Mayan
Prophecy
By
Marcos Alfonso
For some time, there have been a number of documentaries and films
that in 2012, according to a Mayan prophecy the world will come to
an end.
|
Specific catastrophes in recent years, like the terrible
earthquake in Haiti or the severe flooding in Venezuela and
Brazil have had the powerful media outlets attempting to make
money out of the end of the world situation.
Despite efforts by many governments, institutions and respectful
people, little has been done or said on the globalization of the
industries and the dangerous gases they generate or the
promotions of wars and conflicts from those that bet on the
destruction of the planet.
Anyhow, last January 3rd, in the Mayan Research Center from the
Philological Research Institute of the Autonomous University of
Mexico published on their web site that “on December 22nd, 2012
the world would not end or will there be a catastrophe; there is
no Mayan prophecy as promoted by the media without scientific
affirmation”.
“In its calendar, the Mayan people did not write a prophecy, but
the end of the 13 bactunes cycle, equivalent to 5 125 years and
the beginning of the other phase”, said Carmen Valverde Valdes,
Coordinator of the Center.
The bactun, said Tomas Perez, another researcher of the center
is the time unit of this culture equivalent to 144 000 days in
western calendar.
Specialists have assured that this culture has a circular notion
of time, that is to say, that whatever occurred at one moment in
time will repeat itself.
According to the criteria of the Mayan Center’s coordinator,
when the history is written, a prophecy is done, because due to
its cycle conception of the events and its repetition, if one
talks about their predictions “in realty its what has been
registered in their own history in writing which is always
cryptic and with symbols”.
The famous date of December 2012 is the beginning of a new cycle
of life according to Mayan calendar, a culture which assures
never had talked about Apocalypses. “The ceremony of 2010 is
marketing”, said Carmen Valverde.
The truth is that according to the alleged apocalyptic, certain
stories have been made up, but the truth is nothing is being
done or very little to change the true damages in which the
hands of humanity are capable of in eliminating their own
existence.
The Haitian people do have a tragedy at hand, first hit by a
devastating earthquake and later by the cholera epidemic. Except
for Cuban cooperation, and some few NGO institutions in the
health sector, the famous aid which have been promised is still
up in the air.
There, I believe, lies the prophecy. Save and save ourselves,
although the powerful are holding on to their space vessels to
travel to “the other world”.
Poor extra terrestrial life if humans reach their destinations.
We would have to wait for the creation of another new universe.
