Cuba was put on the level with France and China,
and in particular with Shanghai, in terms of civil defense and
meteorology programs, during an exchange workshop of the Program
held in Bridgetown, capital of Barbados and sponsored by the
World Meteorology Organization.
Head of the National Weather Forecast Center of the Cuban
Institute of Meteorology, Jose Rubiera, who attended the event,
told Cuban ambassador to Barbados Lissette Perez the workshop
centered on the analysis of the best civil defense and weather
forecast practices in the Caribbean, making emphasis in the
integration of both fields.
Rubiera, who is WMO’s vice president, said a highlight of the
workshop was the interest expressed by most participating
countries in integrating all of the factors involved in the
reduction of risks entailed by natural disasters in the
Caribbean.
