Not a single hospital or policlinic has been
closed in Cuba, and the current work-related reorganization is
made to benefit the people, asserted Machado while addressing
participants in the Provincial Conference of the National Union
of Health Workers.
Several delegates coincided that a rigorous physical examination
and the exchanges held between physicians and patients make it
possible to establish a diagnosis, without having to turn to
unnecessary lab tests, X-Rays, ultrasounds or even the more
expensive and harmful Nuclear Magnetic Resonance.
Salvador Valdes, General Secretary of the Cuban Workers
Confederation, said that the relocation of excess workers
swelling the staff of some centers and institutions will have to
be made with justice, tact, and the political explanation for
its need.
For his part, Public Health Minister Roberto Tomas Morales
explained that Cuban hospitals and policlinics have First World
technology and that difficulties lie in the financial resources
to keep them.
