boxers ever Roberto Caminero Pérez, "Chocolatico Pérez", was
buried this Wednesday in this eastern Cuban city.
|
Chocolatico Perez, as he was known
in Cuba in a clear homage to the greatest Cuban boxer before the
Revolution “Kid Chocolate”, was born in Santiago de Cuba on
April 27, 1945. In the Sao Paolo 1963 Pan American Games
Chocolatico won the first gold medal, in the 60 kilogram
division, at this kind of event for Cuba.
In the 1966 Central American and the Caribbean Games, held in
Puerto Rico, the Cuban boxer was clearly stripped from his gold
medal and upon his arrival in Cuba, Revolution leader Fidel
Castro presented him with the “Medal of Dignity”
He represented Cuba in other boxing championships like the 1968
Mexico Olympic Games and the 1962 Central American and the
Caribbean Games.
Chocolatico, a humble person despite his achievements, devoted
the rest of his life to teach and train the new generations of
Cuban boxers.
