The Chinese leader highlighted the close friendly
ties between the two countries, the upcoming 50th anniversary of
bilateral diplomatic relations and the increase of cooperation
in the field of security and interior order.
“We have to work together to safeguard the
interests of our respective nations,” said Zhou during his
meeting with the Cuban delegation from the island’s Interior
Ministry.
Zhou praised Cuba’s achievements in the economic and social
sectors and the efforts of the Cuban government to alleviate the
impact of the current international economic crisis and natural
disasters. He also reiterated China’s support of the Cuban
people’s struggle in defense of their sovereignty and against
Washington’s almost 50-year-old blockade.
Colome Ibarra pointed out that he was very impressed by China’s
advances since his last visit to this Asian nation 13 years ago.
On Monday, the Cuban Interior Minister held
official talks with the Minister of State Security of China,
Geng Huichang.
According to the website of the Cuban Foreign
Ministry, he will also meet with the Minister of Public
Security, Meng Jianzhu, and with other local leaders.
