During the meeting, both leaders
expressed their satisfaction with the current state of bilateral
relations and ratified their governments’ willingness to
continue strengthening bilateral ties. According to a note read
on Cuban television, they also spoke of topics of international
interest.
Machado Ventura thanked the visitor for Paraguay’s traditional
support of the Cuban people and government’s struggle against
Washington’s economic blockade and for the release of the five
Cuban antiterrorists who remain unjustly imprisoned in the
United States.
Lacognata was accompanied by officials from the Paraguayan
Foreign Ministry including its Director for Bilateral Policies,
Roberto Benitez Fernandez. Present on the Cuban side was Foreign
Minister Bruno Rodriguez Parrilla.
