Barrios started the event with ample lead over today’s winner, Croatian Sandra Perkovic, who finished in the second position with 16 points.

Perkovic had to resort to her best shot ever to defeat the Cuban athlete.

The Cuban thrower broke her season barrier in her first attempt with a 65.96 meter shot, but Perkovic gathered all her strength to break Croatia’s national record and win the event with 66.93, second best in the world this season after the 67.78 from German Nadine Muller.

Third place went to Chinese Yanfeng Li with a 64.74 mark, enough to qualify sixth in the Diamond League.
